34 MONOR. OUR TOWN. WE ARE BUILDING IT. ECONOMY Monor’s economy defining features is that the service sector serves the needs of residents and businesses of nearby settlements. In terms of the number of enterprises per thousand inhabitants, Monor is on the same level as the settlements of similar size belonging to the Budapest agglomeration, serving its 18000 residents and at least as many more from the nearby towns and villages. Within the industrial sector, the food and the construction industries are dominant. Logisticstype developments are becoming more and more typical, thanks to the proximity of Budapest, the M4 main road and the M0 ring road. In Monor, the service and the commercial sector are considered to be particularly good in the national comparison. Monor’s extensive financial sector provides a good foundation for the current development of its economy, as there are several financial institutions operating in the town centre. Public administration tasks of the region are also performed through the institutions located in the town centre: the document office, the police station, the law court, the public prosecutor’s office, the disaster management directorate, the chief veterinary office, the land register, the agricultural advisers’ office, the public health office and the school-inspectorate centre.
