Monor, az ezer pince városa

16 MONOR. OUR TOWN. WE ARE BUILDING IT. Since the founding of Vigadó Cultural and Civil Centre Nonprofit Ltd the cultural life of Monor has become more and more vibrant and colourful. Along with making extensive use of Vigadó and the House of Culture, they also bring together urban programmes organized by non-governmental organizations. On request, they help to organize and run more and more demanding programmes arranged by associations, foundations and clubs that attract large audiences. Various buildings and public places of the town regularly host cultural programmes. Due to the multifunctional nature of the sports hall, it is the venue for proms and performance evenings; the library CULTURAL life building is a popular place for book shows and amateur exhibitors; at the music school, those interested can attend concerts; and the market hall has been converted into a Festival Hall on several occasions, where symphony orchestra concerts, light music performances and charity cooking have already been organized. The renovated town centre hosts light music concerts and other community programmes several times a year. The cultural life of the town is enriched by the Monori Strázsák Folk Dance Ensemble, which is acknowledged nationwide. In various branches of art the country has several excellent artists of local origin. MC Columbo, the lead singer of the popular bands Irie Maffia and Brains; the Liszt Prizewinning pianist Károly Mocsári; painter Gyula Balogh, the Munkácsy Prize winner; the jazz virtuoso Frigyes Pleszkán, who died tragically, and the Csokonay Prize-winning painter László Koday are all connected to Monor with a thousand threads.
