30 MONOR. OUR TOWN. WE ARE BUILDING IT. MARKETS and fairs Monor has been holding twomarket days a week since 1848 (since being granted the status of amarket town). The Town Market Hall in its current form has been used since 2001 by farmers and residents living in and around the town. The shops surrounding the market resemble the local wine cellars in their external architectural traits. Every Wednesday and Saturday, the local farmers sell fresh fruits and vegetables and other market products to buyers committed to healthy and delicious flavours. Individual initiatives based on local producers’ primary products are becoming increasingly successful. Of these, it is worth highlighting apple cheeses, jams and cheese products offered for sale on the stalls of small-scale producers. Pet lovers throughout Central Europe well know the Monor Pet Fair, held six times a year. 15-20 thousand visitors attend each Fair intending to look at or buy – under increasingly strict control – a pet, a fancy bird or ever a small furry animal. Since most of the vendors are breeders themselves, even if you do not intend to buy anything, feel free to contact them for animal husbandry advice! A walk at the pet fair with its many things to see is great fun for both adults and kids.
