28 MONOR. OUR TOWN. WE ARE BUILDING IT. PUBLIC LIBRARY and local history exhibition The public library building, also housing amusic school, is located in the town centre. In 2014, the institution was named in honour of the Hungarian philologist and classical scholar, the Széchenyi Prize winner Dr Borzsák István and adopted the name of Dr Borzsák István Town Library and Local History Exhibition. The holdings consist of books, journals, newspapers, vinyl records, cassettes, CDs, microfilms, videos and computer database archives. Almost 90,000 documents are at visitors’ disposal, making the library the fifth largest in Pest county. The town library runs the local history exhibition entitled ”In the Dust of the Plains, in the Noise of the Small Town”. The permanent exhibition, opened in the year of themillenniumof the founding of the Hungarian state, covers our town’s past fromprehistoric times. The first gallery introduces Monor’s natural surroundings and its geological history, including somemammoth bones found inMonor. Archeological relics are also exhibited here, including the first traces of human presence, the beautifully shaped, polished stone axes from the late Neolithic (3800-3200 B.C.) The second gallery shows how the people of Monor lived in the 19th century. The third one exposes articles connected with viticulture and viniculture.
